God's Word Approves the Judicial Oath — Monday, June 15
As we step into this new week, God calls us to be faithful witnesses — in the courtroom, the workplace, and every quiet place where truth is tested.
"You shall not circulate a false report. Do not put your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness."
— Exodus 23:1 (NKJV)
As I stepped into this new week, these words from Exodus stopped me before I even got started.
I have been thinking about what it means to be a witness — not just in a courtroom, but in the daily places God has put us. At work. In our relationships. In the quiet moments when no one is watching but God.
Every Monday we step back into the world — into offices, classrooms, businesses, and responsibilities. And almost immediately the pressure begins. The pressure to shade a truth here, to stay quiet when speaking would cost us something, to go along with what the crowd is doing because the honest road looks harder.
But God's Word has always called His people to something higher than that.
"If there is anyone on earth who can consistently testify under oath, it is Christians. They live in the light of God's countenance. They grow strong in His strength."
— Ellen G. White, Testimonies for the Church 1:202, 203
What strikes me most is that Jesus Himself submitted to the judicial oath at His trial. When the high priest adjured Him by the living God to declare who He was, Jesus answered. He did not hide. He did not deflect. He bore witness to the truth even though that truth would cost Him His life.
That is the standard we follow. Not because the law demands it — but because we serve the One who is Truth.
Perhaps you are stepping into a situation this week where honesty feels risky. A conversation you have been avoiding. A matter at work where the easier path would be to look the other way. I want to encourage you this Monday morning — God is with the one who chooses truth. His Spirit strengthens the faithful witness. You are not alone in that moment.
Begin this week with your word anchored in truth. Your yes meaning yes. Your no meaning no. Not perfectly — but genuinely, with the help of the One who never fails.
🙏 Closing Prayer
Lord, make me a faithful witness this week — in every conversation, every commitment, every moment where truth is tested. I want my words to reflect Your character. Strengthen me where honesty feels costly. In Jesus' name, Amen.
