Seek Divine Wisdom in Handling Money — Thursday, June 25

"His Lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'"

Every time I read the parable of the talents, I notice it's not the size of what the servants were given that mattered to the Master — it was their faithfulness with it. That's both freeing and a little convicting for me today.

I think I carry a quiet anxiety around money sometimes — what if I lose it, what if I don't manage it well enough, what if I make the wrong call. But this parable reframes the question entirely. It was never really mine to lose in the first place. It was entrusted to me.

There's something almost relieving in that, if I let it be. I'm not the owner trying to protect my assets from every possible risk. I'm a steward asking, "Lord, what would You have me do with this?" That's a completely different posture to operate from.

Ellen White's words today named something I needed to hear plainly:

"We must not lose sight of the fact that stewards are to trade with their Lord's goods, and that they are handling a sacred responsibility... The money they handle is not theirs, and is not to be expended unnecessarily, for the vineyard of the Lord is to be worked, and its working requires the expenditure of means."

"The money they handle is not theirs." I want to actually sit with that instead of just agreeing with it intellectually. If I really believed that about every dollar that passes through my hands this week, how would my spending look different? Probably more generous in some places, more careful in others — but always asked of God first, rather than decided on my own.

Father, thank You for trusting me with resources to manage for Your glory, not my own. Help me remember that what I hold isn't ultimately mine to protect or worry over. Give me wisdom in every financial decision today, and a heart that asks what would please You before it asks what's most comfortable for me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
