The week is closing and the Sabbath is near. A Friday reflection on setting right priorities and coming into God’s rest.
"Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you."

Friday. The week is drawing to a close and the Sabbath is coming. And God meets us at this threshold with one of the most important invitations in all of Scripture.
As I reflected on this passage today, I found myself being honest about how easy it is to let the week crowd out what matters most. The busyness of Monday through Friday has a way of filling every available space — and before long, the things that belong to God get pushed to the margins. The family altar is neglected. Private devotion is forgotten. Eternal interests, instead of being put first, are given only second place.

Absorbed in worldly business, they fail to perform the duties they owe to those around them… God is robbed because their best thoughts are given to the world."

That phrase — God is robbed because their best thoughts are given to the world — stayed with me. Not their worst moments. Not their obvious failures. Their best thoughts. The clearest, most energized hours of the day given to the world, not to God.
Perhaps you have felt that tension this week. I know I have.
But here is the grace in this passage. Jesus does not say, seek first the kingdom and things will be hard. He says all these things will be added. God is not calling us away from provision and responsibility. He is calling us to put Him in His rightful place — and trust that when we do, He takes care of what we cannot manage on our own.
This Friday, as you prepare your heart for the Sabbath, I want to invite you to lay down the week. Release what is undone. Let God be God over the things that are still in process. And come into His rest tomorrow with a heart that has chosen the better thing.
Seek Him first. He is worth it. And everything else will find its proper place.

Lord, as this week closes and the Sabbath draws near, I lay down everything I have been carrying. The unfinished work, the unanswered questions, the weight of the week. I come to You now and ask You to reset my priorities. Help me to seek You first — not just on Sabbath, but in the rhythm of every day. You are my treasure. You are my rest. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
