The Character That Honors God.

Scripture
"Therefore you shall not oppress one another, but you shall fear your God; for I am the Lord your God." — Leviticus 25:17 (NKJV)

Have you ever faced a situation where you could have gained an advantage, but deep down you knew it wasn't the right thing to do?
Perhaps it was in business, at work, at school, or even in a personal relationship. Those moments often reveal what is truly happening in our hearts.

As I reflect on today's verse, I am reminded that God cares not only about what we do but also about why we do it. He instructed His people not to oppress one another because He wanted them to reflect His character. The same God who guided Israel through the wilderness was present in their daily interactions, their business dealings, and their treatment of others.
What encourages me is that God has not changed.
The God who walked with Abraham, guided Joseph in Egypt, protected Daniel in Babylon, and strengthened the early church is still present with His people today. He sees our choices, our struggles, our temptations, and our victories.
My devotional, "To Be Like Christ" by E.G. White, warns against allowing selfish gain to become the driving force of our lives. There is nothing wrong with wisdom, planning, or careful decision-making. In fact, these are gifts from God. The danger comes when personal advantage becomes more important than integrity.

Sometimes we do not see our own weaknesses clearly. Yet God, in His love, allows circumstances to reveal what is hidden in our hearts. Difficult people, challenging situations, and unexpected trials often expose attitudes that still need His transforming grace.
I am thankful that God does not reveal our weaknesses to shame us. He reveals them because He loves us too much to leave us unchanged.
Just think about it. God is a master craftsman working on His people. Every rough edge of character, every selfish tendency, every wrong motive can be surrendered to Him. Through His Word, His Spirit, and the experiences of life, He patiently shapes us into the likeness of Christ.

That truth gives me hope.
God is still working on us.
He is still refining us.
He is still transforming ordinary people into faithful followers of Jesus.

Christian author Ellen G. White once wrote:
"God can make these more precious than fine gold, even the golden wedge of Ophir, if they will yield themselves to His transforming hand." — Testimonies for the Church, vol. 4, p. 541.

What a beautiful promise. God specializes in transforming lives that are fully surrendered to Him.

Today, ask God to examine your heart.
Are there areas where pride, selfishness, impatience, or personal gain have taken priority over Christlike love?
Invite Him to continue His work of transformation.
Choose honesty over advantage.
Choose integrity over convenience.
Choose kindness over selfishness.

Remember that every choice is an opportunity to reflect the character of Jesus.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for being present with Your people throughout history and for walking beside us each day. Thank You for loving us enough to shape our character and transform our hearts. Help us to treat others with fairness, kindness, and integrity. Reveal anything in us that does not reflect Jesus, and give us the courage to surrender it to You. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, continue Your work of refining us so that our lives may honor You. In Jesus' name, Amen.

My Friend, the God who guided His people throughout history is still walking beside His people today. Trust His leading, surrender to His transforming hand, and allow Him to shape your character for His glory.
