Walking With Christ in Ordinary Responsibilities

Walking With Christ in Ordinary Responsibilities

Spiritual growth often begins by inviting Christ into the ordinary responsibilities already in front of us.

Colossians 3:23 (NKJV)
And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.

A new week can make me think I need a dramatic spiritual reset, but Scripture keeps bringing me back to something simpler: walk with Christ in what is already in front of me. The ordinary responsibilities of life are not interruptions to discipleship. They are places where faith can become visible.

Colossians 3:23 challenges me to bring a different spirit to ordinary work. When I remember that even small responsibilities can be done “as to the Lord,” the question shifts from whether a task feels important to whether I am willing to honor Christ in it. Spiritual growth often happens quietly—through repeated choices to surrender self, obey God, and let His character shape the way I live.

“Genuine sanctification... is nothing less than a daily dying to self and daily conformity to the will of God.” — Ellen G. White, This Day With God, August 30; Letter 49a, August 30, 1878.

Practical Application

Before beginning one ordinary responsibility today, pause and dedicate it to God. Ask Him to help you do it faithfully and with the right spirit.

Closing Prayer

Lord, meet me in the ordinary parts of this day. Help me surrender self, follow Your will, and honor You in the responsibilities before me. Let my daily choices become part of my growth in Christ. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
